A modern take on the Traditional Barong Tagalog a traditional Filipino garment that symbolises of national identity, pride. It as it has evolved from being a marker of social status during the Spanish colonial era to a symbol of unity and heritage in contemporary Philippines. The Hari Barong draws also inspiration to the Manananggal a shape-shifting monster in Philippine folklore.

The cuffs are adored with the Yakan Sinaluan weave which are carefully loomed by the women of the Yakan Tunnan tribe in Basilan in the Mindanao region of the Philippines. The geometric lines are reminiscent of their bamboo trees which signify their strength as a community.

  • Hand embroidered Baybayin phrases:

    • Along chest: translates to “Sa Wakas” in Tagalog or “At last in English.

    • Along wrist cuffs: translates to “Walang Hiya” in Tagalog or “Fearless” in English.

  • Modular & Adjustable design details:

    • Interchangeable as a sleeveless vest with removable arm cuffs

    • Arm cuffs can be tightened/loosened to fit comfortably around your arm

    • Open side seams and armholes with rouleaus and ties to be carefully customised to your liking

Buttons:  Reclaimed & repurposed buttons from donated Barong Tagalog (Donated  - Composition; Polyester)  

Yakan Sinaluan weave: Sourced from Antill Fabrics (60% cotton 40% polyester)


Garment Care Instructions

  • Hand wash only and let air dry

  • Use a high setting when ironing to smooth any wrinkles
