Hari
This was a project for an assignment for my Reconstruction/Reinvention subject for Collarts as a first-year student. This assignment involved the construction of a prototype of a new garment made from 2-3 business shirts with little to no waste.
This subject was my first exposure to designing with zero-waste techniques and was very creatively challenged as I usually don't work with fabrics with bold patterns and only had very basic sewing skills and knowledge of garment construction at the time. Despite the hurdles, I embraced the challenge. Looking at the pattern reminded me of the cinematic architecture of the royal kingdom seen in the movie Dune hence inspired me to create a genderless and fluid garment that simply emulated royalty.
Hari in Tagalog means reigning or being a king.
Although my finishes needed work, I was, however, proud of creating an entirely new garment out of pre-existing garments for the first time.
